It’s a rare occasion for me to get properly dressed up and head out to a red carpet event, but when you’re nominated for an award at the Northern Blog Awards 2017 it’d be rude not to make an effort! I was nominated for Best Lifestyle Blog, which was an amazing feeling, especially since it was the first award I’ve ever been nominated for.
Arranged by WeBlogMCR, this year was the first ever year of the Northern Blog Awards – not that you could tell since it was such an incredible evening. The Awards took place on Saturday 16th September at the beautiful Principal Hotel in Manchester. Seriously, it was the most stunning hotel, which made a perfect setting for a glitzy awards night. We actually stayed at the hotel (treat yo’ self!), so look out for a full post on that soon.
After travelling over to Manchester and getting ready in our rooms, we headed down to the nominees reception before the Awards started. Obviously with it being a blogger awards, there are plenty of photos to take, so we got slightly waylaid on our way! Whilst Rhi got some snaps of me, I did spend most of the time doing my #InstagramHusband duties and taking photos of Rhianna and Anoushka.
We actually ended up missing near enough all of the nominees reception, so we went straight down to the Ballroom where the Northern Blog Awards 2017 were taking place. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was absolutely blown away by the set up. The room was beautifully dressed, featuring some stunning tables with giant candlesticks, and plenty of photo booths and sponsor stalls around the room.
We sat down at our table for our three-course meal and were pleasantly surprised to be sat with Anoushka and Hannah (from Hannah Gets Hench) who we basically spent the whole night with. In terms of the meal – whilst not every dish was to my tastes, the food I liked was delicious and presented beautifully. I could pretend that I forgot to take photos, but y’all know that I was just too excited to stuff my face.
Before we knew it, it was time for the actual awards bit of the ceremony. It felt quite surreal to be there, to be honest. I’d never even expected to receive a single nomination, let alone actually be shortlisted for the award. It was even weirder to think that I was up against my girlfriend for the same award. Each award came with a video showcasing all the nominees, and when my name came up and people cheered for me I got goosebumps. It was such a unique moment in my life, I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
Now I didn’t win the award for Best Lifestyle Blog – but Rhianna did. She deserved it so much, and I’m so incredibly proud of everything she’s achieved since she started blogging. From the moment I found out she was nominated I hoped she would win, and I’m so glad she did.
I had the most incredible evening at the Northern Blog Awards 2017. I left feeling inspired by all the amazing content on show, but also incredibly proud of myself. People talk a lot about the ‘blog community’ but I think the Northern Blog Awards was probably the biggest showcase of that I’ve seen. Holly did the most incredible job of organising the awards, and I’m so happy I could be there to celebrate with everyone else.
The Northern Blog Awards 2017 were amazing – here’s to 2018!
