The albums I have on repeat this summer

The albums I have on repeat this summer | Joseph BurrowsCan we all just take a moment to appreciate how banging 2017 has been for music? Seriously, we’re only in summer and I’m already stressing over my top 10 albums of the year. It’s a hard life. But out of all the fantastic albums we’ve been treated to this year, there are some albums I have on repeat this summer.

I think summer is a very niche time for music. I always find that the sun draws me to the music that is catchy, upbeat, and full of harmonies. The kind of music you’d listen to whilst driving on a road trip with the roof down, you feel?

In the spirit of sharing the love, these are the albums I have on repeat this summer. Make sure you check them out because they are FAB.

Paramore – After Laughter

We might as well start here and get this one out of the way. I love Paramore, and After Laughter is a masterpiece. Every song is drenched in New Wave pop and it is glorious. Seriously, how can you not listen to ‘Hard Times’, ‘Told You So’ and ‘Fake Happy’ and fall in love? Not only do I think this is Paramore’s best album, I think it could be the album of the year.

If you want to hear me declare my undying love for After Laughter even more, you can read my full review here.

Haim – Something to Tell You

Haim. Wonderful, magical Haim. I didn’t really know what to expect from their second album but WOW. Something to Tell You is incredible. Imagine if Fleetwood Mac made a country album. Then add 3 sets of luscious vocal harmonies. The result is Something to Tell You, and it’s glorious. My favourites are ‘Nothing’s Wrong’ and ‘You Never Knew’ and if you don’t like them I will fight you.

The Maine – Lovely Little Lonely

I’m going to be honest and say that The Maine have never really done anything for me. I saw a few positive reviews for Lovely Little Lonely and thought I’d check it out – now it’s basically the only thing I’ve listened to for weeks. It’s just the perfect summer pop-punk album, whilst still sounding mature enough to be released in 2017. Basically, I absolutely love it and I don’t know who I am anymore.

Lorde – Melodrama

Where has Lorde been my whole life? When she released ‘Royals’ I didn’t get it but omg I understand now. Heck, Lorde is totally not even my kind of music, but Melodrama is the one. The lyrics are like poetry, and you become totally enthralled in the story Lorde tells through her music. Honestly, just listen to this album. Specifically ‘Perfect Places’ because TUNE.

Dreamcar – Dreamcar

The supergroup you never knew you needed. Dreamcar consists of the singer of AFI and then everyone from No Doubt (minus Gwen Stefani). Their self titled album is drenched in 80s New Wave vibes and it is glorious. Think of Duran Duran and Adam Ant, but with a gothy synth-pop tinge, and you’ll be halfway there.

So there you have it, the albums I’ve got on repeat this summer. AND, there’s still albums to come from Nothing But Thieves, Pvris, and more. Fingers crossed 2017 continues to be the beautiful musical gift that keeps on giving. <3
