27 Things I’ve Learnt From Blogging

27 Things I've Learnt From Blogging | Northern BloodMy first year of blogging has certainly taught me a lot. Oddly enough blogging isn’t just someone sitting in a dark room and ranting about something on the internet! Who would have thought it? When I first started blogging I didn’t even really know what it was, let alone the fact that there are so many amazing bloggers out there! Now, I’m by no means a blogging expert, actually I’m far from it! But that doesn’t mean I haven’t picked up a thing or two in my time. In fact, I’ve learnt 27! So here they are, the 27 things I’ve learnt from blogging!

  1. Bloggers are some of the nicest people in the world and they are filled with butterflies and rainbows. FACT.
  2. Some of them, however, are total arses and should not be allowed the internet. DOUBLE FACT.
  3. DA makes no sense to anyone.
  4. You don’t always need a blog niche.
  5. Not everyone on the internet is a sexual predator and you can make some amazing friends.
  6. Moz will crush your soul and laugh about it.
  7. Unless their update is delayed. Again.
  8. Winter has terrible lighting and it will ruin your life. How do you expect me to take good photo when it’s been night for the last 5 days?
  9. Restaurant reviews will not help you lose weight. Free food and cocktails are worth it though CAN I GET AN AMEN?
  10. You can never have enough photo props.
  11. Succulents.
  12. Succulents everywhere.
  13. Succulents in copper and rose gold pots against white backgrounds.
  14. Blogging is NOT about getting constant freebies.
  15. But getting freebies is pretty cool.
  16. Bloglovin’ is always broken and it totally sucks but we all use it anyways.
  17. You will always compare yourself to other bloggers. It’s inevitable. Just remember everyone else does it too.
  18. Everything in life becomes a photo opportunity.
  19. Buying bargain strips of wallpaper from Ebay and Wilkinsons will make your photo backgrounds A+.
  20. Investing in a proper camera will 100% change your life. Trust.
  21. Erm, since when did Instagram’s have themes?
  22. You’ll probably be totally broke because you’ll spend all your money on things to blog about.
  23. Sometimes you’ll want to just delete everything and start again.
  24. Juggling a blog, social life, and work is damn hard (but it’s totally worth it).
  25. Photo-editing software will become your best friend.
  26. Taking a break from your blog is totally okay!
  27. None of your devices will ever have enough battery life and you’ll hate them (even though you can’t live without them).

So those are the 27 things I’ve learnt from blogging! Have I missed anything out? What have you learnt? Let me know in the comments!

OMG Joe I love this haha! Screw Moz and screw Bloglovin, but we still use them anyway…!

  • Love this, I’m with you on all of these. Especially 8 – even if you think it looks pretty light, you get your camera out and nope your camera thinks it’s midnight. Yes, I could get my tripod out and use a longer exposure but honestly? I can’t be bothered.

  • Jessica Anna

The best post I’ve read this year so far; you’re totally candid and I love that, but it’s all so true! I agree with them all, especially 1 and 2, and 20! But all of them are ace, this is the embodiment of #blogpostgoals.

Sending love from A So Called Beauty Blog // Bloglovin’

AMEN. To everything. Particularly no.1 and no. 2. And no. 3. And maybe no. 17 too haha!

  • Spiked Black Tee

This is ace! I was pretty surprised when Instagram became a ‘theme heavy’ place but I have learned to love it. As for the cheap ass wallpaper samples A+ tip

  • This made me laugh! I think I can agree with pretty much everything here.

    Caroline xo

  • Fab read, brilliantly written and 100% with you on all the above!

  • The DA thing is funny, it’s when you try and explain it to someone who doesn’t have a clue haa. Juggling life is really hard but you seem to smash it! 🙂

Omg this made me laugh! Succelnts! Succulents everywhere! Like the scene out of toy story! No but I totally am related to all of these points especially the last one 🙂

Haha I loved all of these! But 11,12,13 and 21 in particular 😉 I definitely don’t have a theme, can’t be fussed! Such a funny post, I agree with it all 🙂 xx

  • megsiobhan

This is all SO true! I’m pretty sure DA is alien to anyone who doesn’t blog, I wouldn’t even attempt to try and explain it to them. I can’t even explain it to myself!

    Meg | A Little Twist Of…

  • All of these are spot-on. I only learnt what DA stood for a few months ago! And I’m still none the wiser as to what it’s all about. Got a new camera recently, too, and it’s definitely changed my life. I don’t get the Instagram themes. I just post pics I like? Haha. Can that be a theme?! And I don’t have a niche, but I’m okay with that! Great post – reading this list made me laugh a lot! 🙂 x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

  • Not a truer word was spoken, o wise one!
Also great tip about cheap wallpapers – I keep using my white dressing gown for everything at the moment haha…

  • Ugh, I feel you on the Bloglovin bit… -_-

  • My Bloglovin has never broke, are you sure it isn’t your site going down or something?

  • Charlie Grant

Ha this made me chuckle and I’ve only been blogging for three weeks! Good tip on the wallpapers too. Charliebloggs.com

  • Lina Steele

    Love it!!

  • You buy your wallpaper samples? I feel quite bad now, I take a trip to B&Q every couple of months and load up on new samples! Great list you’re right NOBODY understands DA!

  • So many yesses!!!

  • kathycakebread

Haha so true. Never thought about wallpaper I use card backgrounds lol (crafting paper)

  • Hannah Hawes

Great post. Can certainly relate to many of these facts! Number 10 in particular is becoming a slight obsession for me I think haha! As for the wallpaper, why not just tear off the sample? Places like B&Q have a great range and you’re allowed to take around a metre sample (not that anyone is there to check what you’ve taken)? Number 24 is difficult, but when you learn to relax more about your blogging schedule, it does get a little easier!
    Love Hannah x

  • I’ve only started blogging, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next year or so! Great post joe 🙂 x

  • This is a great post, and everything is so relevant! I feel I’m going to have to start getting wall paper samples- what a great tip!

Haha laughing so hard right now!! All these are soooo true!! Amazing post!! And you are so right…you can never have enough props! I think I need a whole room in my house dedicated to photo props lol!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Now I have some things to look forward to and some things to dread as I’ve only just started. (:
